OBITUARY FOR PROGRAM
Willie Emory Jones was born to the late Grover and Mabel Greene Jones November 30, 1919 in Sussex County, Virginia. After his motherâ??s death, Willieâ??s rearing was assisted by his godmother, Vinia Jones. He was a member of Hunting Quarter Baptist Church for a number of years and later he and his late wife Mary Jane joined First Baptist Church, Disputanta. He was a member of the Usher Board and later became a deacon. In June 2010, Willie was honored for his lengthy and dedicated service to the Deacon Board.
Willie was drafted into the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he served at Pearl Harbor. Upon his return home, he went to agricultural school under T.O. Thweatt and sharecropped, alongside his stepson James, with the Swineford family. Willie was a truck driver with Builderâ??s Supply Company Hopewell, from which he retired after 25 years of services.
Shortly after retirement, Willie became ill, but God spared him to see many more years and celebrate several milestones. This gentle giant was a faithful servant and a loving family man. Firm and forthright, he never needed to raise his voice to get his point across. Proud and upright, one smile from him would tell you â??job well done.â? He believed in an honest dayâ??s work, taking care of family, and giving God the glory at all times. A man that was loved and respected by so many on earth has gone home to claim his reward.
