Willie Earl Wells Jr

Willie Earl Wells, Jr. (Smotty) 87, of Petersburg, VA died February 17, 2019 at his residence. Born and raised in Petersburg, VA., he was the son of the late Willie Earl Wells, Sr. and Olive Pecht Wells Tatum. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia O’Dell Chandler Wells; brothers, Eugene Wells, Bubba Wells, and Arthur Wells; and sister, Angie Wells. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a 1951 graduate of Petersburg High School and was an active member of “POGO” (Petersburg Old Geezers Organization). He was an active member of the (SCV) Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camps # 167, 1813, 2220, and 3000. He was a member of the Virginia Flaggers, an honorary member of the (OCR) Orders of the Confederate Rose and the (ANVMC) Army of Northern Virginia Mechanized Calvary. He was the owner of Petersburg Amusement Company for over 50 plus years. He was a long time supporter of the Petersburg Police Department and the Southside Virginia Emergency Crew. He enjoyed and loved his animals.
He is survived by his son, Willie Earl Wells, III and wife, Teresa Piner Wells; daughters, Vivian Overby Fuller and husband, Mark and Debbie Overby Cox and husband, Neil; five grandchildren, Carey, Shelby, Melissa, Wade, and Britney; and several great-grandchildren. A loving and devoted girlfriend for the past 25 years, Carol Greene.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 22, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at Nanny’s Barbeque, 11900 South Crater Road in Prince George County from 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Condolences may be registered at www.jtmorriss.com
