Mrs. Wilma Livesay Howlett, 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011. She was the daughter of the late John William and Blanche Ercelle Spain Livesay. Mrs. Howlett was also preceded in death by her husband, James Claiborne Howlett; three brothers, Bernard A., J. Kilby, and Harry A. Livesay; and two sisters, Mildred Livesay and Hazel L. Stripp. She was born on March 31, 1921 in Petersburg, VA where she grew up and attended Petersburg Schools. Mrs. Howlett has been a resident of Dinwiddie since 1963. She was a long time employee of Rucker-Rosenstock Department Store, and was also an employee of the City of Petersburg before her retirement. She was an avid gardener, and will long be remembered for the beautiful gardens around her home. She was a life long member of Elm Street Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia H. Sullivan and husband, Dennis of Petersburg; a son, James E. Howlett and wife, Susan of Colonial Heights; five grandchildren, Erin and James Sullivan, Johanna S. Phelan and husband, Andrew all of Petersburg, Keri Crowley and husband, James of Chesterfield, Kourtney Bostain and husband, Jay of Henrico; four great-grandchildren, Celia Phelan, Hayleigh and Ryleigh Crowley, Jackson Bostain; two sisters, Ruth Lee Burnham and Frances L. Anderson; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Petersburg Chapel of J.T. Morriss and Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday at the funeral home, with the Dr. Ivan Perkinson officiating. Interment Blanford Cemetery, Petersburg, Va.
