Wilson Floyd Garris, 94, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Consulate Healthcare in Windsor, Virginia. Born in Isle of Wight Co. he was the son of the late Wesley F. Garris and Mattie Crocker Garris Hines. Mr. Garris served his country in the U. S. Army; was a retired electrician and owner/operator of Windsor Pool Hall and Garris Grocery in Windsor. He loved to pitch baseball, was a member of Woodmen of the World; and a member of Colosse Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Eula Mae Crocker Garris; three sisters, Mildred Spivey, Mary Redd, and Margaret Rhodes; a brother, John Wesley Garris; and his step-father, Ernest R. Hines.
He is survived by a son, Wesley F. Garris and wife, Cynthia; three daughters, Nelda G. Copeland and husband, Johnny, Emogene G. Babb and husband, Jimmy, and Nola G. Mumford and husband, Roger, all of Windsor; half-brother, Elbert R. Hines (Helen) of Glen Allen, Virginia; ten grandchildren, Jenel Sterling, Lynette Flemmons, Teresa Byrum, Gail Hunter, Greg Byrum, Travis Byrum, Amy Garris, Chris Copeland, Heather Dunlow, Roger Mumford, II; two step-grandchildren, Leslie Babb and Bryan Babb; nephews, Maurice Rhodes and Richard Hines; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J. T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, with the Rev. Buzz Ballard and the Rev. Tim Webb officiating. Interment will follow in Windsor Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Colosse Baptist Church, Grounds Improvement Fund, 27035 Colosse, Windsor, Va 23487.
