Zelma Pearl Conlee

September 12, 1930 — December 24, 2016

Mrs. Zelma Conlee of Wilson, VA became one of God’s special angels entering into eternal rest on December 24, 2016 at Dinwiddie Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 12, 1930 in Petersburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Sterling M. and Ada Pearl Joyner Vaughan and lifelong wife and soul mate of Donald E. Conlee. She was preceded in death by a brother, Sterling M. Vaughan, Jr.; and two sisters, Lucille King and Edith Vaughan. Mrs. Conlee was a respected and loved member of Corinth United Methodist Church in Ford, VA where she served the Lord joyfully by singing in the choir and participating in numerous church activities. Favorite things in life besides serving the Lord was cooking and bowling with friends. The famous ladies of her Fort Lee bowling team brought home many first place honors. She truly loved bowling, taking second place only to her love of travel. She used to say “there was nothing better than a cruise!” She served as Vice President of Young at Heart club, an organization she truly loved. She was employed by Retail Merchants Credit Bureau and later went to WSSV Radio Station where she would retire from a marketing position. She is survived by her husband and life time companion, Donald E. Conlee; two daughters, Deborah C. Spivey and husband, Chuck, of Dinwiddie, VA and Tina C. Wolfrey and husband, R.G. of Charlotte, NC; three sons, David E. Conlee and wife, Karen, Robert S. Conlee and wife, Shelia, all of Dinwiddie, VA, and Charles M. Conlee and wife, Brenda, of Fairgrove, MO; several grandchildren, Scott Spivey and wife, Kristina, Shannon Springer and husband, Nick, Daiva Conlee-Lipford and husband, Justin, Danna Conlee, Beth Conlee, Maegan Conlee, Justin Conlee and wife, Valissa, Laura Campbell, Daniel A. Wolfrey, and Stacey M. Shoope and husband, Dale; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. Other close family members include cousins, Wilson Vaughan and wife, Jan, Charles Vaughan and wife, Loretta, Louis Vaughan and wife, Peggy, Josephine Joyner; a special niece, Vickie Spivey and husband, Danny; and lifetime friend and ex-brother-in-law, Kenneth L. Williams. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 A.M., on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Dinwiddie Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 6616 Boydton Plank Road, N. Dinwiddie, VA 23803, with the Rev. James O’Quinn officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
