Zelma M. South, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 7, 2004. She was a devout Christian and practiced her beliefs in everything she did in life. She was born in Pound, VA on September 18, 1938 and was the daughter of the late Delmer and Leona Mullins Meade. She moved to Hopewell in 1955. She was a member of Calvary’s Love Ministries where she was a regular caregiver in the nursery. She was a loving and giving person who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Zelma lived a simple life and nothing made her happier than being with her family and having all the grandchildren around her. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and her family and friends were blessed to have been a part of her world. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Jonathan South; 1 sister, Carzella Osborne; 4 brothers, Jess, Newman, Jerry and Tommy Meade. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, David South; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Greg Muncy, Betsy and Mark Hatcher, one son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Sabrina South, all of Prince George, three sisters, Myrtle Hollyfield of Xenia, Ohio, Rachel Fleming, North Carolina, and Sherry Branham, Pound, VA; one brother, General Meade, of Wise, VA., 9 grandchildren, Adam, Jennifer, David, Kayla, Amber, Christopher, Courtney, Gabrielle and Alyssa. She also leaves behind a special sister-in-law, Jean Caudill and a special friend, Nora Watson. The family will receive friends Friday, July 9, 2004 from 7:00 to 8:30PM in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004 at 1:00PM in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rocky Shearin officiating. Interment will be in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens, Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Calvary’s Love Ministries, 118 S. 11th Avenue, Hopewell, Virginia 23860.
